I recently traveled to Costa Rica for my friend Robin’s 30th birthday celebration and packed some beautiful swimsuits to accompany me. I had never been to Costa Rica before and I was stunned by how green and lush the country is. We stayed in a gorgeous house in the mountains of Jaco, Costa Rica. The house overlooked the beach and had an infinity pool we of course put to good use.
For this trip, I packed 4 swimsuits each purchased in a different on-trend style and at different price points. Minutes after we arrived at our beautiful home away from home we were in our suits ready to swim. For the first day of sunbathing and swimming, I opted for an ultra high cut one piece from Nastygal.com. The suit was in a tropical print, another big trend for summer 2018, had an open back, and essentially no sides (haha).
Style: Exaggerated High Cut One-piece
Comfort: This bathing suit was moderately comfortable especially given the ultra-high cut of the suit. Despite the cut being so high, the bottoms of the swimsuit did not rise up or make the suit uncomfortable to wear. I am a bit busty and the suit provided solid coverage but did not have a lot of support for movement. This suit is definitely not for real swimming or beach activities but it’s good for lounging and wading around in the water. I will definitely wear again and I loved the combination of colors on the tropical print of the suit. The pink and green together had me blending right in with the tropics.

The next suit I wore is from a super discount retailer called Shein.com, I recently reviewed their shoes (click here to read) so I figured why not give their swimsuits a try? I paired the suit with this amazing visor I bought in Johannesburg, South Africa. The colors in the visor matched the color of the swimsuit completing the look perfectly.
Bright strapless bathing suits with front tie details are a major trend this summer. When I saw this suit on Shein.com for less than 30 dollars total, I immediately put it in my cart. As I mentioned before I am busty, so I am always skeptical about strapless swimsuits and was quite doubtful this one would hold up (pun intended).
Shop Accessories: Visor (street market), Earrings, Sunglasses (street market)
Style: Strapless two piece with front knot tie
Comfort: The bathing suit was amazing style-wise. It looked exactly as pictured on the website. The front tie detail was fashionable, the color really popped in the sun, and the style was right on trend. The bottoms of the suit were a slightly high cut Brazilian which I found flattering. The top provided more support than I anticipated (as in it didn’t fall down), but it was a far cry from being fully secure. I chose to wear this suit around our Jaco home just for that reason.
Recommend Purchase: At your own risk, the suit looked great but wasn’t very supportive or secure.
The second day of our trip was boat day (always my favorite day) and the requested attire was blue swimwear. I purchased this gorgeous, floral embellished, high-waisted swimsuit from prettylittlething.com. I thought the color and the swimsuit were both unique. I added a floral crown from H & M, and my favorite sequin earrings from Zara to style the suit up a bit.
Brand: Prettylittlething.com (sold out, available here)
Style: Strapless top with a high-waist bottom
Comfort: This suit was one of the most comfortable suits I have ever worn. The top fit great and did not require constant adjustment (or pulling up) during the boat trip as many strapless swim tops do. It provided full and secure coverage through all the jumping, swimming, and dancing that took place on the boat that day. The bottoms were equally as comfortable. The high waist cut is always flattering and these bottoms were just that: comfortable and flattering at the same time, my favorite combination.

My favorite swimsuit from this trip was a swimsuit from Riotswim.com. The suit was bright orange with off the should ruffles and a high cut bikini bottom. Riot swim is one of my favorite swimwear brands because they advocate and encourage women (of all shapes and sizes) to be fearless in their choices of swimwear and unafraid to show off their bodies.
Shop Accessories: Chain Wrap Skirt
Style: Ruffled two piece with Brazillian bottoms
Comfort: This bathing suit was beautiful, the color was gorgeous and the cut and fit were flattering and well designed. The off the shoulder ruffles were right on trend for summer 2018 as was the high cut cheeky bottoms. The top had an underwire which provided for support and the straps were adjustable so that the top could be altered for the ideal fit. Of all the suits on this trip, this one was a clear favorite. It fit nicely, looked great, and was comfortable. I added a chain skirt as a cover-up because it was pretty, it served no other logical purpose lol.
