I love a good statement jacket. I’ve mentioned a few times on Casual Redefined my love of vintage and old clothing so it should come as no surprise that one of my favorite coat trends for fall is the elegant cape. I have three capes and they all came from the thrift store/consignment shop. They are flattering, comfortable, warm (when you get the good ones), and the perfect coat to throw on over any outfit with voluminous sleeves (necessary more often then you think).
This plaid cape coat was one of my all-time best thrift stores finds (read about my love for thrifting here). I think it was this piece that made me fall in love with the thrift store altogether. It’s crazy to me that something I found in a thrift store 7 years ago, I am pulling out now for a blog shoot. As I say many times on Casual Redefined, fashion is constantly repeating, hold on to your good pieces.
I paired my plaid cape with a yellow dress reminiscent of Beyonce lemonade (so it gives me instant good feelings) to brighten up the otherwise muted grey of the cape and the boots. My grey over-the-knee sock boots are a Zara favorite from last fall, they are comfortable and add a nice element of texture to any outfit I wear them with.
